Chargers Rally Past Bucs in Final Innings

HUNTSVILLE, Alabama-The Christian Brothers University Bucs scored seven early runs, but host Alabama Huntsville scored nine in the seventh and four in the eighth as they rallied for a 16-8 win over the Bucs Sunday.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Bucs (6-18, 1-11 GSC) opened the scoring with a five-run second inning. Larry Hubbard (Collierville, Tenn./St. George's Independent HS) singled, and Brandon Dodd (Arlington, Tenn./Arlington HS) followed with a walk. Jared Cramer (Olive Branch, Miss./DeSoto Central HS) scored Hubbard with a double, and Parker Jordan (Southaven, Miss./Briarcrest Christian HS) brought Dodd home with a single. A Nick Traylor (Germantown, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) sacrifice fly brought Cramer home. With two out, Jeff Goodwin (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) was hit by a pitch, and he and Jordan scored on a two-run double by Jaime Soto (Naples, Fla./Gulf Coast HS).
• Nolan Ramsey put UAH on the board with a leadoff homer in the bottom of the second.
• CBU added two more in the third. Hubbard led off with a walk, and Dodd singled to right. A Cramer sacrifice put them on second and third, and Traylor brought both in with a two-out single.
• The Chargers answered with two in the bottom of the fourth on two singles, two walks, two errors and a wild pitch.
• UAH exploded for nine runs in the seventh, regaining the lead as they capitalized on three walks, seven singles and a triple.
• The Bucs plated a run in the top of the eighth to cut the deficit to 12-8. Traylor legged out a one-out single and moved around to third on a groundout and a Goodwin single, scoring on a Soto single.
• The Chargers set the final margin with four more in the eighth on an error, a walk, two doubles and a single.

• Traylor went 3-for-3 with a sacrifice fly, a run and three RBI.
• Soto was 3-for-5 with a double and three RBI.
• Hubbard went 1-for-4 with a walk and two runs.

• Blake Dallas (Arlington, Tenn./Arlington HS) threw a scoreless inning of relief, with three strikeouts against one hit.
• Gabe Brooks (Gastonia, N.C./Ashbrook HS) tossed a scoreless inning of relief with two strikeouts while allowing one hit.

WHAT'S NEXT:
The Bucs return to action Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. as they visit LeMoyne-Owen.
