Ninth-inning Rally Hands Bucs Heartbreaking Defeat

SEARCY, Arkansas-After scoring six runs in the top of the ninth to take a 12-6 lead, the Christian Brothers University Bucs gave up seven in the bottom of the inning as they dropped a 13-12 decision at Harding Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Bucs (7-19) opened the scoring with five runs in the first inning. Jeff Goodwin (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) reached on an error to start the game. A Jaime Soto (Naples, Fla./Gulf Coast HS) single and a Taylor Angley-Holman (Redding, Calif./Enterprise HS) walk loaded the bases with none out. A wild pitch scored Goodwin, and back-to-back walks to Larry Hubbard (Collierville, Tenn./St. George's Independent HS) and Jared Cramer (Olive Branch, Miss./DeSoto Central HS) brought Soto home. A Luke Wewers (Little Rock, Ark./Catholic HS) sacrifice fly plated Angley-Holman, then another wild pitch brought Hubbard home. Parker Jordan (Southaven, Miss./Briarcrest Christian HS) doubled down the right field line to score Cramer.
• Harding (11-16) scored a run in the bottom of the first on three singles.
• The Bisons cut the CBU lead in half with two runs in the bottom of the sixth on a walk and two doubles.
• HU drew within a run in the bottom of the seventh with a run on a walk, a single, a wild pitch and a fielder's choice.
• CBU added a run in the top of the eighth. Jordan worked a one-out walk, and Keagan Voss (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) followed with a single. A two-out walk to Goodwin loaded the bases, and Soto drew a bases-loaded walk to extend the lead to 6-4.
• Harding tied the game in the bottom of the frame with two runs on two singles, a walk, a run-scoring double play and a wild pitch.
• The Bucs seemed to have pulled away to victory with a six-run outburst in the top of the ninth. Cramer was hit by a pitch with one out, and walks to Wewers and Jordan loaded the bases. Voss worked a bases-loaded walk to score Cramer, and Wewers scored on a Nick Traylor (Germantown, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) sacrifice fly. Goodwin hit an RBI single to center, and Soto followed with a two-run triple to right to give the Bucs an 11-6 lead. Angley-Holman reached on an error to bring Soto home and give CBU a 12-6 lead.
