Bucs Never Trail in Doubleheader Sweep

MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Bucs swept a doubleheader from visiting West Alabama Saturday afternoon at Nadicksbernd Field, winning the opener 4-3 and claiming a 5-4 win in the second game.

GAME 1:
WHAT HAPPENED:
The Bucs (9-19, 3-11 GSC) scored four early runs and Peyton Sanderlin (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS) carried a shutout into the ninth inning as they claimed a 4-3 win in the series opener.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Bucs opened the scoring with three runs in the first inning. Nick Traylor (Germantown, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) started the inning with a single up the middle, and Jaime Soto (Naples, Fla./Gulf Coast HS) scored him with a double to right-center. After moving to third on a groundout, Soto scored on a Larry Hubbard (Collierville, Tenn./St. George's Independent HS) infield single. Hubbard moved to second on an error, scoring on a two-out single by Brandon Dodd (Arlington, Tenn./Arlington HS).
• Parker Jordan (Southaven, Miss./Briarcrest Christian HS) added a run to the CBU lead in the second inning when he blasted the first pitch of the inning over the left-field fence for his fourth homer of the season, giving the Bucs a 4-0 lead.
• The Tigers (9-17, 4-9) broke through with a two-out rally in the ninth, scoring three runs on three  singles and a double, but Sanderlin struck out the last batter with the tying run on first to end the game.

KEY STATS:
• Sanderlin pitched a gem, carrying a three-hit shutout into the ninth. He finished allowing three runs, two earned, on seven hits against 10 strikeouts.
• Soto went 3-for-3 with a double, a run and one RBI.
• Traylor was 2-for-4 with a run.
• Jordan went 1-for-3 with a homer, a run and one RBI.
• Luke Wewers (Little Rock, Ark./Catholic HS) was 1-for-3 with a triple and a walk.
• Larry Hubbard (Collierville, Tenn./St. George's Independent HS) went 1-for-3 with a walk, a run and one RBI.

GAME 2:
WHAT HAPPENED:
The Bucs built a 5-2 lead in the first two innings and held on for a 5-4 win to sweep the twinbill.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• CBU struck first with three in the bottom of the first. Soto started the rally with a one-out single, and Taylor Angley-Holman (Redding, Calif./Enterprise HS) worked a walk. A two-out walk to Jared Cramer (Olive Branch, Miss./DeSoto Central HS) loaded the bases, and Jordan followed with an RBI single to left. A two-run single by Keagan Voss (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) gave the Bucs a 3-0 lead.
• The Tigers scored twice in the top of the second on a double, a walk and two singles.
• The Bucs took advantage of three errors to score twice in the second. Traylor worked a leadoff walk, and two errors on a Jeff Goodwin (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) bunt attempt put runners on second and third with two out. Angley-Holman reached on an error to bring both home.
• The Tigers drew within a run when they scored twice in the fifth on two doubles, a single and a bases-loaded double play.
• Nick Myers (Collierville, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) kept the Tigers' bats in check from there, only allowing a bunt single and a batter to reach by error as he pitched three innings for his first save.

KEY STATS:
• Voss went 1-for-2 with a walk and two RBI.
• Jordan was 1-for-3 with one RBI.
• Traylor went 1-for-2 with a walk and a run.
• Ryan Taylor (Arlington, Tenn./Arlington HS) earned the win, throwing two and two-thirds innings of relief, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks against four strikeouts.
