Tigers Thwart Bucs in Series Finale

MEMPHIS-Visiting West Alabama rode a school-record 18-strikeout performance from righthander Cole Waites as they claimed a 10-1 win over the Christian Brothers University Bucs in the series finale after the Bucs had swept a Saturday doubleheader at Nadicksbernd Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Tigers (10-17, 5-9 GSC) scored first with a run in the top of the second on a double, a groundout and an error.
• CBU (9-20, 3-12) tied it in the bottom of the inning. Jared Cramer (Olive Branch, Miss./DeSoto Central HS) led off with a single and moved to third on a Parker Jordan (Southaven, Miss./Briarcrest Christian HS) single, scoring on a Keagan Voss (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) squeeze bunt.
• UWA regained the lead with a run in the fourth on a leadoff single, a stolen base and a pair of productive groundouts.
• The Tigers added three in the fifth on a walk, a single and a three-run Ben Dalke homer.
• UWA tacked on three more in the sixth on a walk, a wild pitch. two singles and a double.
• The Tigers scored a run in the seventh on a single and three walks.
• UWA added another run in the eighth on an error, a single, a hit batter and a sacrifice fly.

KEY STATS:
• Cramer went 1-for-4 with a run.
• Jordan was 1-for-3.
• Jaime Soto (Naples, Fla./Gulf Coast HS) went 1-for-3 and was hit by a pitch.
• Kyle Raburn (Millington, Tenn./Evangelical Christian School) threw two and a third innings of relief, allowing one unearned run on two hits and two walks against two strikeouts.
