CLEVELAND, Mississippi-No. 6 Delta State swept a doubleheader from the Christian Brothers University Bucs Friday, winning the opener 6-4 and taking a 4-0 win in the nightcap.
GAME 1:
WHAT HAPPENED:
The Statesmen (23-6, 13-3 GSC) scored in three of the first four innings to take a lead they would not relinquish in a 6-4 win.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• DSU struck first with two in the first on two singles and an error.
• The Bucs (9-23, 3-14) got on the board in the second when Parker Jorden blasted a two-out solo homer to left.
• CBU tied it in the third.
Jeff Goodwin (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) reached on a two-out single and scored from first on a
Jaime Soto (Naples, Fla./Gulf Coast HS) double to the gap in right-center.
• The Statesmen regained the lead in the bottom of the inning with a run on two singles and a wild pitch.
• DSU added another run in the fourth on a single, an error, a groundout and a sacrifice fly.
• The Statesmen scored twice more in the seventh on a triple, a single and a double.
• CBU pulled back within two as they scored twice in the eighth.
Nick Traylor (Germantown, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) singled up the middle, and
Brandon Dodd (Arlington, Tenn./Arlington HS) worked a walk. A Soto single scored Traylor, and
Taylor Angley-Holman (Redding, Calif./Enterprise HS) singled Dodd home.
KEY STATS:
• Soto went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI.
• Goodwin was 1-for-3 with a run.
• Jordan went 1-for-4 with a homer, a run and one RBI.

Blake Dallas (Arlington, Tenn./Arlington HS) threw a scoreless eighth, pitching around a pair of hits.
GAME 2:
WHAT HAPPENED:
The Statesmen scored two early runs and pitcher Dalton Minton threw a two-hit shutout in a 4-0 game.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• DSU scored first in the bottom of the first with a run on two singles, a walk and a sacrifice fly.
• The Statesmen doubled their lead in the second on two singles and two groundouts.
• DSU set the final margin with two in the sixth on two doubles and a single.
KEY STATS:
• Angley-Holman went 1-for-2 and was hit by a pitch.

Brandon Dodd (Arlington, Tenn./Arlington HS) was 1-for-3.
•
Kyle Raburn (Millington, Tenn./Evangelical Christian School) threw a scoreless inning, retiring all three batters he faced.
