CLINTON, Mississippi-Christian Brothers University sprinter
Emma Montoya (Nice, France, Lycee Henri Matisse) was named Outstanding Freshman Performer in the Gulf South Conference Championships as both CBU teams finished seventh.
Montoya accounted for 29 of the Lady Bucs' 52 points, Montoya posted NCAA Provision Qualifying times as she won both the 200 meters, in 24.21 seconds, and the 400 meters, in 55.26 seconds, both school records. She also finished third in the high jump, clearing 1.62 meters, just shy of the NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark, and she was part of the 4x400 meter relay that finished sixth place.
Brian Braswell (Bartlett, Tenn./Bartlett HS) won the men's javelin, throwing a school-best 53.77 meters on his final throw to win the championship. Braswell also earned four points with a fifth-place finish of 15.46 seconds in the 110 meter hurdles, and he was part of the 4x100 meter relay team that finished fifth in 43.08 seconds.
Paul Bobinger (Munich, Germany/Munich Tech University) earned 11 points in hurdles, finishing third in the 400 meter hurdles in 54.73 seconds and fourth in the 110 meter hurdles in 15.28 seconds.
Reilly Johnson (Mandeville, La./Mandeville HS) also earned 11 points in the women's throwing events, taking third place with a 37.14 meter discus throw and fourth place with an 11.91 meter shot put.
Raeven Veal (Cordova, Tenn./Cordova HS) took fourth place in the women's 400 meter hurdles in 58.43 seconds, also running in the 4x100 meter and 4x400 meter relays.
Nic Pinarski (Lakeland, Tenn./Arlington HS) finished third in the men's 3000 meter steeplechase, finishing in 9:43.
Blake Amato (New Orleans, La./Brother Martin HS) finished fourth in the javelin at 51.57 meters.
The CBU track and field teams return to action Saturday as they run in the Memphis Invitational hosted by the University of Memphis.
