Choctaws Overpower Bucs in Sweep

CLINTON, Mississippi-Host Mississippi College scored 19 runs on 28 hits as they swept a doubleheader from the Christian Brothers University Bucs Sunday afternoon.

GAME 1:
WHAT HAPPENED:
MC (24-10, 13-7 GSC) rapped out 16 hits as they pulled away to an 11-1 win int he first game of the doubleheader.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Choctaws opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first on three singles.
• MC doubled its lead in the second with a run on two singles and a wild pitch.
• CBU (10-27, 4-17) broke through for a run in the top of the third. Nick Traylor (Germantown, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) reached on a one-out single to right. After moving to second on a Jaime Soto (Naples, Fla./Gulf Coast HS) groundout, he scored on a Taylor Angley-Holman (Redding, Calif./Enterprise HS) single to center.
• The Choctaws added three in the bottom of the inning on a hit batter, two singles and a three-base error.
• MC blew it open with a five-run fourth on two singles, a walk, a double and a two-run Brandon Broussard homer, all with two out.
• The Choctaws ended the game with a run in the seventh on an error, a single and a double.

KEY STATS:
• Jared Cramer (Olive Branch, Miss./DeSoto Central HS) went 2-for-2.
• Angley-Holman was 1-for-3 with one RBI.
• Traylor went 1-for-4 with a run.
• Garrett Stebbins-Johnson (Jacksonville, Fla./Providence School of Jacksonville) threw two and two-thirds innings of relief, allowing an unearned run on four hits against one strikeout.

GAME 2:
WHAT HAPPENED:
The Choctaws took advantage of four CBU errors as they built an 8-0 lead on their way to an 8-3 win to complete the doubleheader sweep.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• MC opened the scoring with three runs in the first on three singles and a double.
• The Choctaws tacked on two more in the second on an error and three singles.
• MC added another tally in the fourth on two singles and an error.
• The Choctaws scored twice in the fifth on two singles, an error and a wild pitch.
• The Bucs got on the board in the seventh inning. Hunter Howard (Chelsea, Ala./Chelsea HS) led off with a double down the left field line and moved to third on a single to left by Larry Hubbard (Collierville, Tenn./St. George's Independent HS). Keagan Voss (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) followed with an RBI double to score Howard and move Hubbard to third. A TJ Klutts (Atoka, Tenn./Brighton HS) single scored Hubbard, and a Traylor single plated Voss. Soto followed with a single to load the bases, still with none out, but a popout and a double play ended the game.

KEY STATS:
• Soto went 2-for-4.
• Cramer was 2-for-4.
• Howard went 1-for-3 with a double and a run.
• Voss was 1-for-3 with a double, a run and one RBI.
• Klutts went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
• Traylor was 1-for-4 with one RBI.
• Blake Dallas (Arlington, Tenn./Arlington HS) threw an inning and two-thirds of scoreless relief, striking out two against a hit and a walk.

WHAT'S NEXT:
The Bucs hit the road again Wednesday evening as they visit Henderson State at 6 p.m. Their next home game is Saturday at noon, when they host North Alabama for a doubleheader.
