Bucs Push Win Streak to Five With Road Win Over Shorter

ROME, Ga. – The Christian Brothers University men's basketball team pushed its win streak to five games after a dominant 112-62 win over Shorter, on Thursday night at the Winthrop-King Centre. The 112 points are the most scored by CBU since 2005.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Hawks (2-16, 0-10 GSC) scored the game's first basket, a three-pointer, but would not lead again as the Bucs (13-6, 8-3 GSC) countered with a 17-2 run, capped off by a jump shot from Joe Laravie, to take a 12 point lead.
  • With 4:53 remaining in the first half, the Hawks strung together a series of layups to cut into the deficit, but the Bucs promptly responded with an 11-0 run to take a 51-26 lead just before the break.
  • CBU started the second half in the same form as the first, scoring 11 of the frame's first 13 points, pushing its lead to 35 (67-32) just before the under 16:00 media timeout.
  • The Hawks never cut the lead to under 30 points, and with 4:14 remaining Easton Upchurch knocked down a three-pointer pushed CBU's lead to 100-56.
  • The Bucs finished the last 2:37 with an 8-2 run to finish the scoring.
KEY STATS:
  • Joe Laravie just missed scoring at least 30 points for the fifth straight game, finishing with 26 (10-of-13 FG, 4-of-5 3FG). Laravie also added five rebounds, and three assists in just 28 minutes.
  • Adam Dieball was equally as impressive, scoring 25 points in 28 minutes. The senior forward converted 10-of-11 from the field and a perfect 2-of-2 from three to go along with seven rebounds and five assists.
  • Three other Bucs finished the game in double figure scoring: Mitchell Mays (14 points, four rebounds), Luke Rudy (13 points, 11 rebounds), and Easton Upchurch (10 points, 4-of-5 FG). Rudy's double-double was the first of his career.
  • The 112 points scored is tied for the fifth most points scored in a non-overtime in program history. The last time CBU scored 110 or more was against Williams Baptist in 2005.
UP NEXT:
  • The Bucs put their winning streak on the line on Saturday, Jan. 26 at West Georgia. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
