West Georgia Halts CBU Win Streak at Five

CARROLTON, Ga. – West Georgia outscored the Christian Brothers University men's basketball team 15-8 over the final 5:44 to earn an 82-79 victory, on Saturday at The Coliseum. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Each team traded blows to start the game, but the Bucs only maintained a 15-12 lead going into a media timeout with 11:43 remaining in the first half. Neither team held a lead of more than four points through the first 10 minutes.  
  • The Wolves blinked first, allowing the Bucs to rip off a 9-2 run off a Jacob Lyons made basket through contact to take a 31-23 lead. West Georgia battled back before half, cutting the CBU lead to 38-36 going into the break.
  • The Wolves scored the second-half's first basket, tying the game at 38. However, the Bucs promptly responded, scoring 10 of the next 11 points to take a 53-42 lead with 15:31 left.
  • West Georgia battled back again, steadily cutting into CBU's lead and tying the game at 57 with just over 11 minutes remaining.
  • Neither team lead by more than four points in the final 10 minutes.
  • After a three pointer by Adam Dieball, the Wolves outscored CBU 10-4 over the final 3:26 (including eight free throws in the final two minutes) to seal the victory.
KEY STATS:
  • Joe Laravie led the Bucs with 30 points in 39 minutes.He has now scored at least 26 points in six consecutive games.
  • Adam Dieball posted another double-double, scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds in his 39 minutes as well.
  • While the Bucs shot 50 percent from the field, they struggled from the outside, hitting just five of their 19 attempts from downtown.
  • Just seven Buccaneers recorded minutes on the afternoon.
