Big First Half Lifts Union Past Bucs

JACKSON, Tenn. - Union outscored the Christian Brothers University men's basketball team 48-17 in the first half and did not look back in a 68-48 victory on Thursday night at Fred DeLay Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Union came out firing, outscoring the Bucs 14-4 in the opening five minutes. 
  • The Bulldogs did not let up, increasing the lead to 29-9 with 8:27 left in the half. 
  • Union finished the half on a 9-3 spurt to take a 48-17 lead into halftime. 
  • The Bucs stormed out of the locker room, going on a 10-2 run over the first six minutes of the half. 
  • Union answered, pushing the lead back to 63-38 with 8:04 left.
  • The Bucs outscored Union 10-5 the rest of the way to get to the final margin.  

KEY STATS | NOTEABLES:
  • Union finished the first half 18-of-27 from the floor, including 9-for-15 from three point range. The Bulldogs also outrebounded the Bucs 19-9 in the opening half. 
  • Brad Miller finished with a season high 16 points to lead the Bucs. 
  • Joshua Jackson added 14 points and seven rebounds. 
  • The Bucs, who had outrebounded all but one of their opponents this season, saw the Bulldogs finish the game with a big 43-25 advantage on the boards. 
  • After the hot start Union shot just 7-of-27 (26 percent) in the second half, including 4-of-19 from three point range. 
  • The Bucs finished with their fewest turnovers of the season (5).

  • The Bucs are scheduled to return to action on Sunday, Dec. 15 when they host Mississippi College. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
