MEMPHIS - The Christian Brothers University men's basketball team stifling first half defense held Mississippi College to just 14 first half points, and 15 percent shooting, in a 68-35 victory, in Gulf South Conference action, on Sunday afternoon at Canale Arena.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Bucs held MC to just five points throughout the first 14 minutes of the contest. CBU used an impressive 25-5 scoring run to extend its lead to 25-5 with 6:34 remaining in the first half.
- A Nick Deifel three pointer, coming off of a pass from Mitchell Mays, with 24 seconds remaining in the first half extended the lead to 22 points. CBU went into the locker room with the 36-14 advantage.
- A layup coming from Winford Ross with 11:46 remaining in the game brought the Choctaws as close to the lead as they would see for the rest of the contest (20 points).
- The Bucs closed out the game with a 15-4 scoring run.
KEY STATS | NOTABLES:
- The Bucs defense held the Choctaws to just 35 points in the contest, which is the fewest allowed since Nov. 13, 2013 when they held Rhodes College to 32. The 35 points were the fewest allowed by CBU, in a GSC contest, since UWA scored 30 on Dec. 11, 2010.
- The 35 points for MC is their lowest total since rejoining the Gulf South Conference in 2014-15.
- CBU shot the ball more efficiently as they shot 50 percent (26-of-52) from the field, while MC was held to 25 percent (13-of-52).
- Three Bucs finished the game with double digit points. Deifel led the attack with 15, Jacob Lyons tallied 14 points, and Brad Miller recorded 13.
- Joshua Jackson led the rebounding for CBU as he grabbed nine in the contest. Deifel finished right behind him with eight.
- Daryl Lewis was a menace on the defensive end as he recorded five steals in the contest.
