Lane Uses Big First Half, Holds on to Defeat Bucs

JACKSON, Tenn. - Lane outscored the Christian Brothers University men's basketball team 30-15 in the first half, and held on for a 63-56 win, on Saturday at JF Lane Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • A free throw by Mitchell Mays got CBU to within 14-10, with 7:01 left in the half, but the hosts went on a 16-5 run to close out the opening 20 minutes. 
  • Lane shot 44 percent in the first half (12-of-27) and held the Bucs to just 27 percent (6-for-22). The Dragons also hit four first half three pointers. 
  • The Dragons led by double figures for most of the second half, but the Bucs went on a 12-4 run to cut the lead to 50-45 with 4:16 left. 
  • Lane went 4-of-5 from the free throw stripe over the last 1:47 to hold on for the win. 

KEY STATS | NOTEABLES:
  • Nick Deifel led the Bucs with 17 points and a game-high eight rebounds. 
  • Mitchell Mays added 14 points and five boards. 
  • The Bucs were just 3-of-12 from three point range. 
  • Both teams finished the game with 18 turnovers. 

UP NEXT:
  • The Bucs are scheduled to return to action on Thursday, Dec. 12 when they travel to face Union, for a Gulf South Conference matchup. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
