West Florida Sweeps Doubleheader From Bucs

PENSACOLA, Florida- The host team, West Florida, swept a doubleheader from the Christian Brothers University Bucs Saturday, winning the opener 10-0 and the final game of the day 4-1. 


FINAL SCORE (8 innings): West Florida (3-4) 10, CBU (1-5) 0

GAME CHANGER
  • The Argonauts' starter, Jared Hatch, threw a complete game shutout, while striking out five batters. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • UWF outhit CBU 14-7.
  • Jared Cramer led the Bucs with three hits (3-3, three 1B), while J.D. Goodspeed was the only other Bus with multiple hits (2-3, two 1B)
  • Seven of the nine starters, for West Florida, ended the game with a base knock.
  • The Argonauts' catcher, Trevor Payne, finished with four RBIs.

KEY PLAYS
  • In the top of the first, the Bucs were sitting pretty with two runners in scoring position (Cramer at 3rd & Garett Reason-Kerkhoff), with only one out, but the Argonauts pitched its way out of jam to leave those runners stranded.
  • West Florida strung together a few hits and capitalized off of a CBU error, in the bottom of the first inning, to take a 6-0 lead.
  • A two RBI single, in the bottom half of the seventh, extended the Argonauts' lead to 7-0.
  • Trevor Payne's sac-fly in the bottom of the eight was enough to bring home the winning run (10-0).

GAME CHANGER
  • Toni Rossi struck out eight Bucs, while holding them to a single run.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Jaime Soto was the only Buc to finish the game with multiple hits (2-3, two 1B).
  • Both team's starting lineup hit well, as six of the nine starters, for the Bucs, tallied a hit, and seven of the nine Argonauts' starters recorded a knock.
  • UWF outhit the Bucs 9-7.

KEY PLAYS
  • The Argos grabbed a two-run lead in the third, coming from a Robert Lopez single. 
  • Kyle Hindman plated a run in the fourth inning, which brought the score to 2-1.
  • An Argos sac-fly and throwing error plated the final run of the game in the bottom of the fourth, to give West Florida the advantage they needed to hold on for the victory (4-1).

WHAT'S NEXT
  • The Bucs look to grab game three against West Florida, Sunday, Feb. 17th. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00PM.
