Big Inning Helps Lead West Florida Past Bucs

PENSACOLA, Florida - West Florida scored six runs in the third inning, and got a complete game shutout from starting pitcher Tony Kucera in a 10-0 victory over the Christian Brothers University baseball team, on Sunday at Jim Spooner Field. The victory gave UWF a sweep of the three game series.


FINAL SCORE: West Florida (5-4, 3-0 GSC) 10, Christian Brothers (1-7, 0-3) 0 (7)

GAME CHANGER
  • UWF starting pitcher, Tony Kucera, threw a complete game shutout, while allowing just four hits and striking out five batters. 


INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The Argos outhit the Bucs 11-4.
  • This was the second game of the series where a UWF pitcher finished with a complete game shutout.
  • Jared Cramer was the only Buc to finish the game with multiple base knocks (2-for-3). This was his second multi-hit game of the series.
  • The Argos piled on a total of nine runs in the second and third innings.


KEY PLAYS
  • In the top of the first, the Bucs put themselves in a good situation to bring home a run, with a single by Cramer and J.D. Goodspeed, but UWF pitched out of the jam to strand two Bucs on base.
  • West Florida strung together a few hits and capitalized off of a CBU error, in the bottom of the second inning, to take a 3-0 lead.
  • The Argonauts broke away, in the bottom of the third, by stringing together four hits, which included a single, two doubles, and a big fly (9-0).
  • UWF finished the scoring for the game with a solo homer by Bryant Harris (10-0)


WHAT'S NEXT
  • The Bucs are scheduled to return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 19, when they make the short trip to Rhodes College for a non-conference contest. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
