Timely Offense Lifts Falcons to Double-Header Sweep Over Bucs

MONTEVALLO, Alabama- University of Montevallo used timely hitting to propel them to a pair of wins, Sunday afternoon, against the Christian Brothers University Bucs. 

GAME 1: Montevallo (3-9, 2-3 GSC) 6, CBU (1-8, 0-3) 4

GAME CHANGER
  • A solo home run by the Falcons' designated hitter, Ben Teel, in the fourth inning, gave them the edge they needed to hold off the Bucs' comeback effort. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The Falcons outhit CBU 13-9.
  • Six of the nine starters for the Bucs tallied a hit, which included Jaime Soto, Travis Cole, and Kyle Hindman with a multi-hit game. All nine starters for the Falcons recorded a base knock.
  • CBU's starter, Gil Erwin, fanned, a career-high, nine Montevallo hitters.

KEY PLAYS
  • The first two innings were quiet, but Montevallo got on the board first, in the third, as they strung together a few hits and capitalized off of a CBU error to take a 3-0 lead.
  • The Bucs answered right back with a run of their own, in the bottom half of the inning, coming from Hindman scoring off of a Jared Cramer groundball to short (3-1).
  • The Falcons scraped across another run in the fourth to give them the 4-1 lead.
  • The Bucs tallied a run in the fifth and sixth innings to narrow the lead to one run (4-3).
  • Montevallo tacked on two more, in the eighth inning, to extend their lead to three (6-3).
  • A J.D. Goodspeed walk brought home a runner in the ninth to narrow the score to 6-4, but the Bucs left three runners on base in the inning which ended the ball game with a Montevallo victory.

GAME 2: Montevallo (4-9, 3-3) 3, CBU (1-9, 0-4) 2

GAME CHANGER
  • A Tyler Krabbe double, in the fifth inning, brought home the winning run for the Falcons. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Hindman recorded two hits in the game, which gave him his second multi-hit game of the day.
  • The Bucs outhit the Falcons 7-6.
  • CBU freshman, Tyler Flynn, struck out eight Montevallo batters in the game. 

KEY PLAYS
  • The Falcons took a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
  • The Bucs answered back, in the following inning, with two runs coming from RBIs from Hindman and Cramer (2-1).
  • Montevallo totaled two runs over the fifth and sixth innings to round out the scoring in the game, which gave the Falcons the 3-2 win.

  • The Bucs look to grab game three against Montevallo, Monday, Feb. 24th. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00PM.
