Dieball Helps Lead Bucs to Senior Day Win over Montevallo

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – In the final regular season home-game of the year, the Christian Brothers University men's basketball honored senior Adam Dieball with a 79-58 win over Montevallo in Canale Arena on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Bucs (19-8, 13-5 GSC) fell behind early, allowing two quick buckets from the Falcons. However, CBU responded with a 22-2 run, culminated by a Brad Miller layup on a pretty pass from Adam Dieball. With 10:37 remaining in the first half, CBU held a 22-6 lead.
  • Things got better for the Bucs as the half progressed. Compared to Montevallo (9-18, 5-12 GSC), CBU made six of the final nine buckets of the half, including a Nick Deifel layup plus a foul, to take a 22 point edge into the locker room (their largest of the game to that point).
  • The Falcons tried to string together a comeback after the break, however, back-to-back-to-back three pointers from the Bucs bolstered the margin to 31, the largest in the game. With 15:22 left in the game, the Bucs held a comfortable 53-22 lead.
  • After an 8-2 run for the Falcons, the lead was trimmed down to 17. CBU never faltered though, promptly responding with an Aiden Ruthsatz three-ball to push the lead back to 20 and the Bucs never looked back.
KEY STATS:
  • To culminate his career in Canale Arena, senior Adam Dieball posted his NCAA D-II leading fourth triple-double of the season, scoring 11 points to go along with 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Despite playing 36 minutes, Dieball only took six shots, but made four of them, including three three-pointers.
  • Junior guard Joe Laravie returned to his potent scoring ways, posting a game high 22 points on 7-of-14 shooting. Like Dieball, Laravie also played 36 minutes on the night.
  • Along with Laravie and Dieball, three other Bucs posted in double figure scoring (five in all). Brad Miller (11 points, 8 assists), Luke Rudy (13 points, 5-of-10 FG) and freshman Aiden Ruthsatz (10 points, 3-of-4 3FG) all had major scoring contributions in the Bucs win.
  • As a team, the Bucs shot 53 percent from the field, and 41 percent from behind the three-point line (15-of-37). Comparatively speaking, the Falcons only shot 41 percent from the field and 24 percent from deep.
UP NEXT:
  • The Bucs have two key road games to close out the season before the Gulf South Conference tournament. CBU heads to Huntsville to face UAH next Saturday, with tip-off scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
