Walk-Off Win Helps Bucs Split With Miles


MEMPHIS - Kyle Hindman hit a walk off sacrifice fly to propel the Christian Brothers University baseball team to a 5-4 win, in the series finale, on Saturday at Nadicksbernd Field.


FINAL SCORE (7 innings): Miles College (3-1) 5, Christian Brothers (0-4) 1 

GAME CHANGER
  • The Golden Bears' starter, Jacob Schuster, threw a complete game, while allowing only one run, three hits, while striking out seven batters.


INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Miles outhit CBU 10-3.
  • CBU freshman Bailey Jones led the Bucs with two hits (2-3, 2B & 1B), while Jaime Soto tallied the only other hit. 
  • Seven of the nine starters, for Miles, ended the game with a base hit. 


KEY PLAYS
  • The Golden Bears strung together a few hits and capitalized off of a CBU error, in the first inning, to take the 3-0 lead.
  • Miles tacked on another run, in the fourth inning, to extend their lead to four runs (4-0).
  • Jacob Bishrarat's second hit of the game, a single to center field, pushed another run in for Miles, in the seventh inning (5-0).
  • A wild pitch, in the final frame, brought home the only CBU run (5-1).

GAME CHANGER
  • With the winning run on third base, in the bottom of the seventh, Hindman hit a deep enough fly ball to bring home Jeff Goodwin to claim the win for the Bucs.


INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Both teams finished the game with six hits.
  • Two Bucs tallied a multi-hit game. Hindman and Goodwin, both, finished the game with two hits and a RBI.
  • Five different Bucs finished the game with a RBI.
  • Ryan Taylor threw the final 3.2 innings for the Bucs, while giving up zero unearned runs and only two hits.


KEY PLAYS
  • The Bucs got on the board first, in the third inning, from a Goodwin single.
  • Miles answered back in the following inning (4th) after they strung together a few hits and capitalized off of a CBU error, to give them the 4-1 lead.
  • Luke Wewers and Garett Reason-Kerkhoff knocked in a pair of runs to bring the Bucs within one from the lead, in the bottom half of the fourth inning (4-3). 
  • With two outs, in the sixth, Keagan Voss singled in Hindman to tie the game at four runs.
  • Hindman knocked in the winning run, with a sacrifice fly, in the bottom of the seventh inning (5-4).


WHAT'S NEXT
  • The Bucs will look to win their second straight, as they are scheduled to host Lane College for a pair of seven inning contests on Wednesday, Feb. 13. First pitch is scheduled for noon. The Bucs were originally scheduled to face Lane on Tuesday, Feb. 12, but the game was moved due to the threat of inclement weather.
