Hawks Sweep Doubleheader Against Bucs

ROME, Georgia- The Shorter Hawks used a spectacular pitching performance and a big offensive day to pick up the sweep against the Christian Brothers University Bucs Sunday afternoon.


GAME 1: Shorter (11-7, 4-5 GSC) 6, CBU (5-13, 2-8 GSC) 0

GAME CHANGER
  • The Hawks' starter, Victor Santana, threw eight scoreless innings, allowed only four hits, while striking out six CBU batters.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Shorter's starting pitcher earned his third win of the season.
  • CBU's starting pitcher, Gil Erwin, threw a complete game.
  • The Hawks outhit the Bucs 10-4.
  • Three Shorter hitters finished the game with a multi-hit game. CBU's catcher, Jared Cramer, was the only Buc to have more than a single hit.
  • The Hawks' pitchers threw for a combined shutout.

KEY PLAYS
  • It was an even game until the Hawks busted things open in the bottom of the fifth frame, when they strung together a few hits and capitalized on a CBU throwing mishap (3-0).
  • The Hawks rounded out the scoring of the game when they plated three more runners in the bottom of the seventh inning to give them the 6-0 lead, which they held until the end of the game.


GAME 2: Shorter (12-7, 5-5) 10, CBU (5-14, 2-9) 3

GAME CHANGER
  • A two run double by Ivan Nunez capped off a five run second inning for the Hawks, which helped them extend their lead to 8-0.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Shorter outhit the Bucs 11-3.
  • Four Shorter batters finished the game with a multi-RBI game, while three hitters had a multi-hit game. Kyle Hindman was the only Bucs hitter with a multi-RBI game.
  • Two home runs were hit in the ballgame. One by each team.

KEY PLAYS
  • The Hawks got on the board first, in the bottom half of the first inning, as they strung together a few hits which brought home three runs (3-0).
  • Shorter continued their strong offensive play as they tacked on five more runs, in the bottom of the second inning, which gave them a 8-0 lead.
  • Hindman hit his first home run of the season, in the sixth inning, which brought home two runs for the Bucs to close the deficit to 8-2.
  • The Hawks answered right back as Santos hit a two run homer to extend their lead to eight runs (10-2).
  • In the final frame, Jeff Goodwin walked with bases loaded to bring home J.D. Goodspeed which closed out the scoring for the game (10-3).

  • The Bucs finish the series against Shorter Monday, March 11th. Game time is TBA.
