No. 1 Delta State Tops Bucs in Series Finale

MEMPHIS, Tennessee- The Delta State Statesmen used a spectacular pitching performance to defeat the Christian Brothers University Bucs 7-2 in the series finale Sunday afternoon.

GAME CHANGER
  • The Statemen's starter, Dalton Minton, threw eight innings, while allowing only four hits, one earned run, and striking out seven CBU hitters.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • DSU's starter, Minton, earned his fourth win of the season.
  • Griffin Miller started for the Bucs but only lasted 2.1 innings due to an injury. Miller held the Statesmen without a hit while striking out three batters.
  • Two Delta State hitters finished the game with multiple hits, while Keagan Voss was the CBU hitter to do so.
  • DSU outhit CBU 8-6.
  • The Statesmen committed an error in each game of the series.

KEY PLAYS
  • Delta State grabbed the 1-0 lead in the second inning when Josh Russell scored off of a CBU wild pitch.
  • The Bucs answered back with a run of their own in the the same inning when Hunter Howard poked a single through the right side of the infield to bring home Voss (1-1).
  • The Statesmen extended their lead to four when they plated a run in the third inning and three in the fourth (5-1).
  • DSU rounded out their scoring for the game when they put two runs on the board in the eighth inning (7-1).
  • Christian Brothers strung together a pair of hits and brought home a run, in the final frame, but it was too little too late (7-2).
