Bucs Split Doubleheader With Chargers

MEMPHIS, Tennessee- The Christian Brothers University Bucs used an impressive pitching performance to complete the game one 6-4 victory, but the UAH Chargers' offense erupted in the final game of the series to help them finish the series win.


GAME 1: CBU (5-10, 2-7 GSC) 6, UAH (10-6, 3-2 GSC) 4

GAME CHANGER
  • The Bucs' starter, Gil Erwin, threw six innings, held the Chargers to two earned runs, while allowing only six hits and striking out seven UAH batters.


INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Blake Dallas recorded the save for the Bucs as he threw 2.2 scoreless innings, while allowing only a single hit and striking out four hitters.
  • CBU outhit Alabama Huntsville 10-8.
  • Jared Cramer extended his hit streak to six consecutive games.
  • Both teams had multiple hitters with a multi-hit game. CBU's Keagan Voss and Jaime Soto finished the game with two hits a piece. Three hitters for the Chargers had multiple hits in the contest.


KEY PLAYS
  • The Chargers wasted no time to get on the board as they scraped a run across in the top of the first coming from a RBI triple (1-0).
  • CBU answered right back in a big way. The Bucs strung together a few hits and capitalized off of an Alabama Huntsville error to take a 4-1 lead.
  • The Bucs struck again in the bottom of the fourth frame with a Cramer sacrifice fly to bring home CBU's fifth run of the ballgame (5-1).
  • Travis Cole extended the Bucs' lead to five runs with a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning (6-1).
  • UAH made a valiant push late in the ballgame as they tallied a pair of hits, bringing home three runs in the top of the seventh, but it was too little too late for the Chargers (6-4).


GAME 2: UAH (11-6, 4-2) 14, CBU (5-11, 2-8) 3

GAME CHANGER
  • UAH's designated hitter, Malave Bettinger, tallied seven RBI's in the contest to help lead his team to the 14-3 victory. 


INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The Chargers outhit the Bucs 20-3.
  • Eight of the nine starters for UAH not only tallied a hit, but had a multi-hit game.
  • UAH scored double-digit runs for the second time this series.


KEY PLAYS
  • A Palmer Ford double in the second inning extended the Chargers' lead to 6-0.
  • The Bucs did all of their scoring in the bottom of the second frame, which came from a sac-fly from Garett Reason-Kerkhoff, Hunter Howard single, and a Jeff Goodwin fielder's choice (6-3).
  • Bettinger hit a grand slam in the top of the third which brought the score to a whopping 11-3.
  • The Chargers rounded out the scoring for the game with Bettinger's seventh RBI of the game (14-3).

  • The Bucs continue play Tuesday, March 5th, as they take on Arkansas-Monticello, on the road. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
