Bucs Fend off Lynx

Memphis, Tennessee- The Christian Brothers University Bucs were able to hold off a Rhodes College comeback attempt on Wednesday afternoon as they came away with the 11-7 victory.

GAME CHANGER
  • A two RBI double struck by CBU's third baseman, Travis Cole, in the ninth inning, brought home insurance runs which were much needed for the Bucs.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Both teams combined for 26 base hits, which resulted in 18 runs.
  • The Bucs outhit the Lynx 16-10.
  • The Bucs' starter, Garrett Dooley, threw well with a line of: four innings pitched, one earned run allowed, while striking out two Rhodes hitters.
  • This was the second time CBU has scored double-digit runs in a game, this season.
  • Six of the nine starters for the Bucs tallied a multi-hit game. Jared Cramer and Keagan Voss led the way with three knocks a piece, while Jaime Soto, Garett Reason-Kerkhoff, Travis Cole, and Jeff Goodwin notched two hits.
  • Cole led the Bucs' offense with three RBIs, while Goodwin, Cramer, and Voss tallied two a piece.
  • Cade Hall recorded his first collegiate RBI.

KEY PLAYS
  • The Bucs jumped out to an early lead, in the top of the first, when Cole knocked in his first RBI of the game (1-0).
  • CBU extended their lead to four, in the third inning, when Goodwin smacked a double to left field to bring home two Bucs' runners (4-0).
  • The Lynx brought home their first run of the game, in the bottom of the third, to close the lead to 4-1.
  • Rhodes narrowed the gap even more as they plated two runners in the fifth frame (5-3).
  • Hall and Cramer smacked back-to-back RBI singles, in the top of the seventh, to extend the Bucs' lead to 7-3.
  • Christian Brothers' plated four runners in the final frame to give them some breathing room, but the Lynx answered right back with four runs of their own but it was too little too late (11-7).

  • The Bucs are back on the road as they travel to Cleveland, Tennessee to take on Lee University on Saturday, March 23th. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
