Bucs Split Senior Day Twin Bill Against AUM

MEMPHIS, Tennessee- A back-and-forth offensive game and a stellar pitching performance led to a twin bill split against the Christian Brothers University Bucs and the Auburn Montgomery Warhawks Saturday afternoon.


GAME 1: CBU (9-31, 5-20 GSC) 14, Auburn Montgomery (23-21, 11-14 GSC) 11

GAME CHANGER
  • A Luke Wewers double off of the centerfield wall, in the bottom of the eighth, gave the Bucs the lead which they held until the final out of the ballgame.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • All nine CBU starters reached base safely.
  • Gil Erwin recorded his third complete game of the season. 
  • Both teams combined for 25 runs and 27 base hits. CBU outhit AUM 15-12.
  • There were a total number of 9 errors committed in the game.
  • Seniors Jeff Goodwin and Hunter Howard led the Bucs' offense with three base knocks a piece, while Keagan Voss, Garett Reason-Kerkhoff, Kyle Hindman, and Luke Wewers finished the game with two hits a piece.
  • Goodwin recorded five runs batted in, while Wewers finished the contest with the second most with three.

KEY PLAYS
  • AUM jumped out to an early lead as they took the 3-0 lead over the first two innings.
  • The Warhawks' third baseman, Dalton Cobb, hit a grand slam in the third inning to extend their lead to 7-0.
  • A Goodwin bases clearing triple, in the sixth, helped the Bucs get back in the ballgame (9-3).
  • CBU plated five runs in the seventh inning after they tallied four hits in the inning, which brought the score to 9-8.
  • The Warhawks extended their lead in the top of the eighth to 11-8, but the Bucs didn't let that last long as they put another five spot on the scoreboard in the bottom of the frame to give them the lead they needed to pull away with the victory (14-11).

  GAME CHANGER
  • The Warhawks' starting pitcher, Josh Flowers, threw a complete game, while holding the Bucs' offense to two runs and striking out seven batters.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Both teams finished the game with seven base knocks.
  • Reliever Griffin Miller threw 2.2 innings, while allowing only one run on one hit and striking out three hitters.
  • Hindman and Reason-Kerkhoff knocked in the only runs the Bucs scored.
  • Reason-Kerkhoff finished the game with three base hits.
  • Eight of the nine AUM starters reached base safely.
  • 14 batters were struck out in the ballgame. 

KEY PLAYS
  • Both teams were slow out of the gate until AUM scratched the first run of the ballgame across in the third inning (1-0).
  • The Bucs answered right back with a run of their own, in the bottom of the third, when Reason-Kerkhoff singled home the tying run (1-1).
  • The Warhawks erupted for five runs, in the fourth inning, and held that lead until the final out (6-1).
  • Hindman singled home the last run of the ballgame in the sixth frame (6-2).

  • The Bucs continue their home play as they take on Ouachita Baptist on Tuesday, April 23rd. The first pitch is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
