Bucs Knock Off Shorter in Shootout

MEMPHIS - The Christian Brothers University men's basketball team scored a season-high 92 points and held on for a 92-85 victory over visiting Shorter, on Thursday night, at Canale Arena. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Both teams traded back-and-forth blows in the first half. Each team would string together a scoring run, but the other team would answer right back with a run for themselves.
  • A barrage of three pointers made the first half a high scoring contest. A total of 29 three pointers were taken in the first 20 minutes of the contest. Brad Miller and Jay Shropshire sunk four each in the first half.
  • The first half was evenly played as both teams went into the locker room knotted up at 47-47.
  • The start of the second half looked to be controlled by CBU. A Daryl Lewis jumper, with 6:14 remaining in the contest, extended the Bucs' lead to 14 points (83-70).
  • The Hawks put together an impressive 11-0 scoring run with 3:47 remaining in the game, but CBU was able to hold off the comeback effort as they pulled away with a seven point victory (92-85).

KEY STATS | NOTABLES:

  • Aiden Ruthsatz set a new career high in points in a contest with 20. He also tallied five rebounds, five assists, and two steals. 
  • Miller led the offensive attack for the Bucs with 22 points. This is his fourth consecutive contest with at least 20 points. 
  • Miller recorded a double-double with 22 points and 13 assists.
  • Miller sunk 5 threes in the contest and Ruthsatz was able to record four.
  • Lewis, Mitchell Mays, and Jaret Gassett were also able to tally double digit points. Lewis ended the contest with 19 points, Mays recorded 13, and Gassett tallied 10.
  • Lewis came away with five steals in the contest. This is the second time this season he has recorded five steals.
  • The Bucs' 92 points are the most they have recorded in a contest since Jan. 24, 2019. They were able to record 112 against the Hawks in that game.

The Bucs continue their home play on Saturday, Jan. 25th as they take on conference foe West Georgia. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
