Bucs Erase 15 Point Deficit to Defeat West Georgia

MEMPHIS - The Christian Brothers University Bucs and the Wolves of the University of West Georgia traded blows throughout the entire contest, which resulted in 14 lead changes. CBU was able to complete their comeback efforts and pulled away with the five point victory 80-75.  

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Both teams got out of the gates on a slow start. At the 9:40 mark (media timeout), in the first half, both teams were all knotted up 13-13. After returning from the media timeout, both teams went scoreless for nearly three minutes. 
  • The rest of the half was highlighted by Aiden Ruthsatz pouring in 11 points for the Bucs' offense. He finished the first half with 17 points.
  • Both teams went into the locker room tied up at 33-33.
  • With 15:37 left in the contest, the Wolves were able to go on a 17-4 scoring run, which included 12 straight points. This run lasted until the 12:08 mark with UWG holding a 15 point advantage (60-45).
  • Two consecutive three pointers by Ruthsatz brought the Bucs back within single digit points from the lead (60-53).  
  • A Brad Miller layup capped off a 11-3 run, which brought CBU one point (71-70) from the lead with 2:39 remaining in the game.
  • The teams traded blows for the rest of the contest with CBU outlasting the Wolves for the 80-75 victory.

KEY STATS | NOTABLES:

  • For the second consecutive contest, Ruthsatz has recorded a career high in points. He was able to tally 25 points, which included seven three pointers. His seven threes ties the second most recorded in a single game by a Gulf South Conference player this season.
  • Miller and Daryl Lewis were the only other two Bucs in double digits. Miller poured in 16 points and Lewis was able to score 12.
  • Mitchell Mays snagged a new career high in rebounds as he recorded 10. Miller finished with one less rebound (9).
  • Lewis' two steals in the contest which brings his total to five consecutive games with multiply steals. He has recorded multiple steals in eight of the last 10 contests.

The Bucs travel to Rome, GA to take on Shorter University on Thurs., Jan. 30th. The tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
