BIRMINGHAM – The Christian Brothers University baseball team earned its first victory of the season in the opener and exploded for an eight run inning, in the second game, to earn a doubleheader sweep over Miles, on Sunday, at Rickwood Field.
GAME ONE: CBU 4 (1-4), MILES 3 (2-4)
GAME CHANGER:

Jonathan Baldelli pitched a complete game (7 inning), allowing just six hits.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- The Bucs were outhit 6-4.

Keagan Voss,
Larry Hubbard and
Travis Cole drove in one run apiece to lead the Bucs. Voss had the only extra-base hit for CBU, an RBI double in the seventh. .
- Starting pitcher
Jonathan Baldelli allowed three runs, on just six hits, with seven strikeouts.
KEY PLAYS:
- Cole opened the scoring for the Bucs, in the second, when his infield single scored Hubbard.
- The Bucs made it 2-0 on a passed ball.
- Miles got on the board with a fielder's choice RBI, in the fourth.
- The Bucs scored what proved to be the winning runs in the seventh on the RBI double by Voss and Hubbard's sac fly.
- Miles made it 4-3 with a double in the bottom of the seventh, but Baldelli got a groundout to end the game.
GAME TWO: CBU 10 (2-4), MILES 4 (2-5)
GAME CHANGER:
- The Bucs scored eight runs, on seven hits, in the top of the sixth.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- CBU outhit the hosts 12-11.
- Hubbard and
Luke Wewers had doubles.

Jaime Soto went 3-for-4 with two runs scored.
- Hubbard,
Kyle Hindman, and Wewers had two hits apiece. Wewers reached base safely all four times.

Kyle Raburn earned the win in relief. He did not allow a run in three innings.
KEY PLAYS:
- After Miles led 4-1 in the third, both teams were kept off the scoreboard until the sixth inning.
- The Bucs recorded seven hits in the sixth frame, including six singles.
- Wewers,
J.D. Goodspeed,
Garett Reason-Kerkhoff, Hubbard and Hindman drove in runs in the inning.
- CBU finished the scoring with Hubbard's RBI double in the seventh.

The Bucs are scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 12, when they make the short trip to face Rhodes College. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
