Delta State Uses Big Second Half to Knock off Bucs

MEMPHIS - Visiting Delta State outscored the Christian Brothers University men's basketball team 40-25, in the second half, to help it earn a 78-65 victory, on Friday night, at Canale Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the early stages of the contest, the visitors raced out to a 16-5 lead. 
  • A Malik Cartwright jumper boosted the DSU lead to 26-14, with 8:56 left in the half. 
  • The Bucs responded, using a 26-12 run, to take a 40-38 lead into halftime. 
  • Both teams combined to shoot a blistering 28-of-47 in the first half. 
  • CBU finished the first 20 minutes 14-of-23 from the floor. 
  • With 13:09 left, the Bucs led 50-49, which proved to be their final lead of the contest. 
  • Over the next 11 minutes, DSU took command with a 24-6 run. 
  • The Bucs scored 10 of the final 14 points of the contest to finish the game. 

KEY STATS | NOTEABLES:
  • DSU finished the game a blistering 63 percent from the floor (32-of-51), including 26-of-32 from inside the three point line. 
  • The Bucs finished 24-of-51 shooting. Both teams were 6-for-19 from long range. 
  • CBU was 11-of-13 from the free throw stripe. 
  • 2019-20 GSC Freshman of the Year, Maalik Cartwright, of DSU, finished the game 13-of-13 from the floor. His 13 consecutive made shots are now tied for fourth in GSC single game history. 
  • Christian Jones led the Bucs with 18 points. 
  • Freshman Jesse Payne IV added six points and nine helpers. 
  • The Bucs finished 39 percent from the floor (20-of-51).
