Bucs Smother Delta State to Earn First Win of Season

MEMPHIS - Less than 24 hours after allowing 78 points, and 63 percent shooting, from Delta State, the Christian Brothers University men's basketball team held the Statesmen to just 50 points, and 43 percent, in a 65-50 victory on Saturday at Canale Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • At the midway point of the opening half, the Statesmen led 15-9. 
  • The Bucs closed out the half on a 22-10 run to take a 31-25 at the half.
  • CBU finished the first half 56 percent from the floor, while DSU was 44 percent.
  • The second half was all Bucs, as they led the entire way. 
  • CBU led by double digits for the final 16:50 of the contest, and opened up a 20 margin with 4:16 left.

KEY STATS | NOTEABLES:
  • Less than 24 hours after the Statesmen shot 63 percent from the floor, the Bucs held them to 45, including a measly 1-of-17 from three point range. 
  • The Bucs finished 25-of-43 shooting, including 12-of-20 in the second half. CBU was also a season-best 6-of-11 from long-range.  
  • CBU was just 9-of-17 from the free throw line. 
  • CBU finished with a commanding 30-17 edge on the boards. 
  • In just his second game back after missing a majority of last season, Nick Deifel led the Bucs with 12 points and 10 boards. 
  • Four CBU players scored at least nine points to help lead a balanced scoring attack.

  • The Bucs are scheduled to return to action on Friday, Jan. 29 when they travel to Mississippi College. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
