Bucs Drop Narrow Decision to Lindenwood in Season Opener

MEMPHIS - Lindenwood earned a hard fought 80-77 victory over the Christian Brothers University men's basketball team, on Saturday afternoon, at Canale Arena.

The game marked the season opener for the Buccaneers.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first 10 minutes belonged to the Lions, as they lead 17-13.
  • Lindenwood capitalized at the free-throw line, shooting 95 percent (18-of-19) to lead 37-31 at the half.
  • The Bucs were 3-of-8 from three point range in the opening 20 minutes.
  • CBU opened the second half shooting 6-of-7 from the field and took a 46-45 lead, on Opong Bramble's layup, with 16:19 remaining. 
  • The Lions fought back, using a 12-5 run, to lead 57-51 with 12:14 left in regulation.
  • With 1:25 left, Luke Gdowski hit a 12-foot jumper, to give the Bucs a 77-75 lead.
  • With nine seconds left and the Bucs trailing by three, Aiden Ruthsatz had his game-tying shot blocked by Romelo Burrell, to give Lindenwood the win.

KEY STATS | NOTEABLES:
  • The Bucs were outscored in points off turnovers 19-17, and outrebounded 30-28.
  • CBU shot 54 percent (31-of-57) from the field and 44 percent (8-of-18) from beyond the arc.
  • In a contest that saw 46 combined fouls, the visitors were 31-of-35 from the free throw line, while the Bucs finished 7-for-13.
  • Aiden Ruthsatz led the Bucs with 18 points and three steals, while Nick Deifel finished with 14 points.
  • Luke Gdowski and Keeving Etienne rounded out the double figure scorers with 11 points.
