Bucs Swept on Opening Day at Auburn-Montgomery

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Christian Brothers University baseball team was swept on opening day of the 2021 season, on Saturday afternoon, at Q.V. Lowe Field. The Warhawks earned an 8-1 victory in game one and held on for a 12-6 win in the nightcap.     

GAME ONE: AUM 8 (2-2, 2-2 GSC) CBU 1 (0-1, 0-1 GSC) (9)
 
GAME CHANGER:
- The Bucs committed five errors in the game one loss.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- The Warhawks finished the game with a 10-4 advantage in hits. 
- Hayden Smith drove in the first run of the season for the Bucs.  
- J.D. Goodspeed went 2-for-4 in the contest.
- Luke Wewers and Will Turner also had one hit a piece.

KEY PLAYS:
- AUM attacked early as they capitalized on a Goodspeed miscue to lead 1-0 after one.
- Starting pitcher Jonathan Baldelli kept the Bucs in the game, as they trailed 1-0 after four.
- The Warhawks took advantage of four CBU errors, while combining for seven runs, in the fifth and sixth innings.

GAME TWO: AUM 12 (3-2, 3-2 GSC) CBU 6 (0-2, 0-2 GSC) (9)
 
GAME CHANGER:
- The Warhawks pushed five runs across the board in the first inning.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- The Warhawks finished the game with a 13-10 advantage in hits. 
- J.D. Goodspeed went 3-for-5 with an RBI double in the fifth.  
- Luke Wewers went 2-for-3 with two hits and two runs, including an RBI double in the fifth.
- Travis Cole added two hits, including an RBI single in the ninth.

KEY PLAYS:
- AUM used two CBU errors to put up a five spot in the first inning.
- The Bucs responded with two runs in the second to trail 5-2.  
- CBU put up two more runs in the fifth, on RBI doubles by Wewers and Goodspeed, to cut the lead to 6-4. 
- The Warhawks scored four runs in the fifth to take 10-4 lead into the sixth.
- Troy Jones, of AUM, pitched 4.1 innings allowing one run on three hits.

UP NEXT:
The Bucs are scheduled to return to action on Sunday, February 14 to conclude the opening series against Auburn Montgomery. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
