No. 10 Alabama Huntsville Shoots Way to Victory Over Bucs

MEMPHIS - No. 10 Alabama Huntsville hit 12 of its 16 three point shots to help it earn a 79-73 victory over the Christian Brothers University men's basketball team, on Saturday, at Canale Arena. 

With the win, the Chargers have now earned four straight victories over the Bucs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Bucs used hot three point shooting to lead for a majority of a back and forth first half, and took a 41-36 lead into halftime. 
  • CBU shot 7-of-14 from long range in the opening 20 minutes. Not to be outdone, the visitors were 6-of-7.  
  • UAH wasted little time coming out of the break, as it used a quick 9-0 run to take a 45-41 lead. 
  • The Bucs regained the lead, 51-50, with 14:29 left, on a layup by Nick Deifel.
  • The teams exchanged the leaded during a closely contested next seven minutes. 
  • Sam Orf knocked down a jumper with 6:10 left, and Seth Swalve knocked down a three pointer 57 seconds later to give UAH a 68-65 lead. 
  • The Chargers did not relinquish the lead for the remainder of the contest. 
  • A layup from Deifel got the Bucs to within 77-73, with 1:06 left, but they were unable to score the rest of the way. 

KEY STATS | NOTEABLES:
  • The Chargers shot 58 percent overall (29-of-50) including 12-for-16 from downtown.
  • CBU finished the game 47 percent from the floor (26-of-55), and 12-for-27 from long range. 
  • The Bucs were outrebounded 31-24, marking the first time this season they have not won the rebounding battle. 
  • The 12 three pointers for CBU are a season-high. 
  • Nick Deifel tied a career-high with 25 points. He finished 5-of-7 from three point range, and added a team-high seven rebounds. 
  • Aiden Ruthsatz added 13 points, and Jesse Payne IV had six points and seven assists. 

 UP NEXT
  • The Bucs are scheduled to return to action on Sunday, Feb. 14 when they wrap up their series with Alabama Huntsville. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. The previous tipoff time was 2 p.m., but the threat of severe winter weather will now have the game beginning one hour earlier.
