Second Half Run Helps West Alabama Defeat Bucs

MEMPHIS - West Alabama used a 19-6 run, in the middle of the second half, and held on for a 65-59 win over the Christian Brothers University men's basketball team on Monday evening, at Canale Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • CBU led for a majority of the first half, but the Tigers used a 16-9 spurt to go to the half tied at 31. 
  • With 14:51 left in the game, a pair of free throws by Nick Deifel gave the Bucs a 41-36 lead. 
  • From there, the Tigers went on a 23-5 run to take a 59-46 lead. 
  • A jumper by Aiden Ruthsatz with just over a minute left got the Bucs to within 64-59
  • CBU had the ball with just over 30 seconds remaining, but were unable to get a shot to fall. 

KEY STATS | NOTEABLES:
  • The Bucs were outscored 34-28 in the second half. 
  • UWA shot 50 percent from the floor in the second half (11-of-22).
  • The Bucs were solid at the free throw line, knocking down 16-of-19 shots. Not to be outdone, UWA finished 16-of-22. 
  • West Alabama narrowly won the battle of the backboards, 26-23. 
  • Aiden Ruthsatz led the Bucs with 14 points. 
  • Daniel Loos tied a career-high with 13 points, and Nick Deifel and Daryl Lewis added 11 points apiece.

  • The Bucs are scheduled to return to action on Friday, Feb. 26 when they travel to Union. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
