Bucs Hit Way Past Lane

MEMPHIS -  The Christian Brothers University baseball team exploded for 17 runs, and 15 hits, in a 17-0 win over Lane College, on Tuesday afternoon, at Nadicksbernd Field. 

The 17 runs marks the most for CBU, in a single game, since 2009. The 15 hits are the most for the Bucs since they had 16 against Rhodes, in 2019.

GAME CHANGER:
- The Bucs sent 16 batters to the plate in a 10-run fourth inning.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- CBU finished the game with a 15-7 advantage in hits.
- Antonio Fernandez led the Bucs going 2-for-3 with a double, single, walk and three RBIs.
- Payne Smith also had three RBIs, while Travis Cole, Reid Voss and Matthew McDaniel had two RBIs apiece.
- The Bucs had six extra-base hits in the contest, including four doubles, a triple and a home run. 
- The two-run home run for Cole was the first of his career. 
- Dragons starter, Joel Ballard, pitched 3.0 innings, allowing six runs (four earned) on six hits.
- Bucs starter, Jackson Lyons, went 4.0 innings, with a career-high five strikeouts. 

KEY PLAYS:
- The Bucs got on the board first with a one-out RBI triple, by Payne Smith. He later scored on a wild pitch as the Bucs led 2-0 after two.
- The Bucs took advantage of a Dragons error to extend their lead to 4-0 after three.
- In the fourth, the Bucs sent 16 batters to the plate, scoring 10 runs on four hits, to extend their lead to 14-0. CBU took advantage of seven walks in the inning.  
- Travis Cole led off the fifth inning with a solo home-run to left field, as the Bucs led 15-0 after five.
- In the sixth, Bucs pitcher Kyle Raburn got in on the action as he singled in his first career at-bat. Raburn later scored one of two CBU runs in the inning.

NOTEABLES:
- The home run for Cole was the first of his career. 
- The three RBIs for Smith and Fernandez are career highs. 
- The RBIs for McDaniel are the first of his career. 

UP NEXT:
The Bucs are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, April 10, when they host Gulf South conference foe Mississippi College. First pitch for Saturday's doubleheader is set for 11 a.m.
