Five Named to Gulf South Conference All-Academic Team, 59 Named to Honor Roll

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Gulf South Conference has announced its 2021 Fall All-Academic Teams and Honor Roll, and Christian Brothers University had five student-athletes named Academic All-Conference and 59 named to the Academic Honor Roll.

Student-athletes who competed in fall sports were eligible for awards. 

Johanna Wistokat, represented the CBU cross country teams. Chandler O'Dwyer and Michael Longo were named to the Men's Soccer All-Academic Team. Riley ChafinAnna Della Rosa, were voted to the Women's Soccer All-Academic Team.

Wistokat, Chafin, and Della Rosa have now earned multiple All-Academic Team honors. 

O'Dwyer and Longo earned their first career honors after helping the Bucs earn a spot in the Gulf South Conference Tournament. O'Dwyer turned in one of the most decorated seasons in program history, as he was named GSC Offensive Player of the Year, First Team All-South Region by the D2CCA and was also named to the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II Men's The Lingfield, England native, who has a 3.87 GPA in the MBA program, finished the regular season with a league-best 12 goals, a league-high 26 points, and was second with 26 shots on goal. He scored goals in nine different matches, and tallied multiple goals in three contests. 

O'Dwyer was one of just 15 NCAA Division II men's student-athletes across the nation to earn first team Scholar All-American honors. 

Longo earned his first All-Academic team honor after wrapping up a storied career that has seen him rank in the top 20 in program history with 70 games played. The Mandeville, La., native was the anchor of the CBU defense, and had a career-high three goals. He currently has a 4.0 GPA in the MBA program. 
 
Wistokat was also named to the 2019 GSC Cross Country All-Academic team, and the 2021 Women's Track and Field All-Academic team. The Wennigsen, Germany native shattered every CBU women's cross country team record this season, while third at the GSC Championships, fourth at the NCAA South Region Championships and a 38th place finish at the NCAA Championships. Her finish at the NCAA Championships helped her become the first CBU women's cross country All-American in program history. 
 
Chafin, and Della Rosa have now earned a trio of All-Academic Team honors during their decorated careers.
 
Chafin, who has a 4.0 cumulative GPA in the Master of Arts in Teaching Program, helped the Lady Bucs advance to the GSC Tournament, and a No. 5 NCAA South Region ranking. The Little Rock, Ark., native finished the season ranked fourth in the league with a .874 goals against average and six shutouts. Chafin was also named Second Team All-GSC for the second time. 
 
Della Rosa, who was also an All-Academic selection in 2018 and 2021 (Spring season), has a 4.0 GPA in Independent Studies. Della Rosa finished the season with four goals and three assists. Her four goals ranked second on the team. 
 
GSC All-Academic honorees must have a 3.2 cumulative GPA and have made significant contributions to their respective teams during the 2021 campaign.
 
The full list of the 2021 GSC Fall Honor Roll recipients from CBU can be found here. All student-athletes who competed in the spring with a 3.0 cumulative GPA are eligible for the GSC Honor Roll.
