Auburn Montgomery Comes Back to Defeat Bucs

MEMPHIS – Auburn University at Montgomery capped off a 13-5 run, over the last 3:24 of the game, with a three point play, with just over three seconds remaining, to defeat the Christian Brothers University men's basketball team 77-74, on Friday night, at Canale Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • The Bucs jumped out to a 14-6 lead by the 15:30 mark of the first half, as Aiden Ruthsatz, Keeving Etienne and Madison Monroe had four points apiece. 
  • CBU pushed its lead to double figures on a Darell Johnson layup with 9:42 left in the first half.
  • The Bucs largest lead came at the 4:03 mark as a 6-0 run pushed the lead to 32-17.
  • AUM cut the deficit to 36-30, with 50 seconds left, but CBU scored five straight points to take a 41-30 lead into halftime.  
  • The Bucs finished the first half 50 percent from the field (14-28) 80-percent (12-15) from the free throw line. 
  • After CBU lead by at least seven points for the entire second half, Roderick Smith hit a pair of charity shots that cut the lead to 50-44. 
  • The Warhawks took their first lead since 2-0, at the 9:04 mark, securing a 58-57 lead.
  • From that point, neither team held more than a five point advantage for the remainder of the contest. 
  • The Bucs trailed 74-71, with eight seconds left, but a three pointer from Aiden Ruthsatz tied the game. 
  • The offensive rebound, and three point play by Roderick Smith gave the Warhawks  a 77-74 lead with 3 seconds left. 
  • CBU was unable to attempt a game-tying shot before the buzzer.  

KEY STATS | NOTEABLES 

  • The Bucs finished 46 percent from the floor (25-54) but were just 5-17 from three point range.
  • AUM shot 24-49, including 62-percent in the second half off of 13-21 shooting.
  • The Bucs scored 21 points off 21 AUM turnovers.
  • Aiden Ruthsatz led the Bucs with a season-high 22 points?on 6-12 shooting. 
  • Keeving Etienne and Ruthsatz combined to go to the charity stripe 17 times going 15-17. 
  • Darell Johnson added 13 points, while Madison Monroe chipped in 10. 
  • Every CBU player that saw action on the court scored at least two points.
