Bucs Fall to Harding in Season Opener

MEMPHIS – The Christian Brothers University baseball team dropped a pair of contests to Harding, on the opening day of the 2022 season, on Tuesday afternoon, at Nadicksbernd Field. The Bisons earned a 10-4 victory in game one and held on for a 6-2 win in the nightcap.     

GAME ONE: HARDING 10 (2-0) CBU 4 (0-1) (7)
 
GAME CHANGER:
- The Bisons pushed six runs across the board in the second inning.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- The Bisons finished the game with a 9-7 advantage in hits. 
- Justin Donovan drove in the first run of the season for the Bucs. 
- Jarret Fowlkes went 2-for-4 with a run scored in the contest.
- Jake Neese went 1-for-2 with a walk.

KEY PLAYS:
- Harding attacked early as it combined for seven runs, in the second and third innings.
- The Bucs responded with three runs in the third to trail 7-3.  
- In the fourth, Harding first baseman, Coulton Doyle, launched his second home-run of the game to give it a 9-3 lead.
- CBU relief pitcher Sam Das struck out the side in seventh, as the Bucs trailed 10-4. 

GAME TWO: HARDING 6 (3-0) CBU 2 (0-2) (7)
 
GAME CHANGER:
- The Bisons capitalized on two CBU miscues, scoring three runs in the second inning.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- The Bisons finished the game with an 8-5 advantage in hits. 
- Jake Neese went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.  
- Jarret Fowlkes, Antonio Fernandez, and Van True recorded a hit in the contest.
- CBU relief pitcher, Joseph Gibson, struck out three in 2.0 innings of work.

KEY PLAYS:
- Harding used two CBU errors to put up a three spot in the second inning.
- Harding added two runs in the third.
- In the sixth, the Bucs got on the board with a pair of wild-pitches to cut the deficit to 5-2.
- Luke Johnson, of Harding, pitched 2.0 innings allowing no runs on one hit with a pair of strikeouts.

UP NEXT:
The Bucs are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, February 12 to face non-conference opponent Truman State. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
