BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Jeremia Montgomery has
been named Preseason All-Gulf South Conference and the Christian Brothers University women's basketball team was picked to finish 11th, in a poll of the league coaches.
Montgomery led CBU, and finished sixth in the league averaging 14 points per contest. The Gallatin, Tenn., native also led the Lady Bucs in rebounds (6.5), steals (1.9) and blocks (1.0). Montgomery, along with Shanique Lucas of Union, are the league's returning leading scorers.
Tieriney Echols,
Tae Leatherwood and
Destiny Kiner were named to the GSC Top Newcomers list for CBU. Echols transfers from Arkansas State University, where she appeared in seven games last season. Before enrolling at ASU, the Memphis native averaged 7.4 points and 4.8 rebounds per game at State Fair CC (Mo.).
Leatherwood transfers from ASU-Mid South where she was an NJCAA All-Region 2 selection. The Tuscaloosa, Ala., native led the region in total assists and was second in steals.
Kiner played the 2022-23 seasons at Mineral Area College (Mo.), where she averaged 5 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists per game. Before Mineral Area, Kiner played at Johnson County CC (Kan.), where she helped lead the team to a pair of NJCAA D2 Tournament appearances, including the 2021 tournament championship game.
The Lady Bucs return six members of the 2022-23 team that finished with nine conference victories, which is tied for second-most by a CBU team since 2004-05.
CBU is scheduled to open its season on Friday, Nov. 10, when it travels to Miami Shores, Fla. to face Barry at the GSC SSC Crossover.
