West Georgia Pulls Away from Bucs

MEMPHIS - No. 16 West Georgia shot 58 percent in the second half, using it to pull away with a 72-59 win over the Christian Brothers University men's basketball team, on Thursday night, at Canale Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • A layup by Christian Jones gave CBU a 24-15 lead, at the midway point of the first half. 
  • The Wolves closed the half on a 12-6 run to trail 37-36 going into halftime.  
  • CBU shot 48 percent in the first half (15-31), while holding the visitors to 13-32 (41 percent). 
  • UWG came out hot in the second half, extending its lead to 59-47, with 9:23 left. 
  • The Bucs were unable to get to within single digits for the remainder of the contest. 

KEY STATS | NOTABLES 

  • CBU held West Georgia to its lowest scoring output of the season. 
  • The Wolves shot 58 percent in the second half (14-24) to finish 48 percent from the floor. 
  • CBU was held to 38 percent shooting, including just 1-10 from three-point range, in the second half. 
  • The Bucs also managed to hit just seven of their 15 free throws. 
  • 2023 Preseason All-GSC selection Zawdie Jackson led UWG with a game-high 23 points. 
  • Christian Thompson led CBU with 13 points and two blocks. 
  • Jailen Anderson (12), Anias Futrell (11) and Braxtyn McCuien (11) rounded out the double-figure scorers for CBU. 
  • McCuien also led CBU with seven rebounds. 
UP NEXT 
CBU is scheduled to return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 5, when it travels to Nashville for a rematch with Trevecca Nazarene. The Bucs claimed a thrilling 110-109 (3OT) win over the Trojans on Nov. 18.
