Jones, Bucs Storm Past Valdosta State

MEMPHIS - Christian Jones was one assist away from a triple-double to help the Christian Brothers University men's basketball team run past Valdosta State 88-57, on Friday night, at Canale Arena. 

Jones finished with 19 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists. Christian Thompson added a double-double (16 points, 10 rebounds) and Anias Futrell finished with 18 points to help pace CBU.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • After VSU took an early 5-2 lead, the Bucs used a 24-4 run to take a 26-9 lead at the midway point of the first half. 
  • CBU hit seven of its first 10 three-point shots. 
  • A jumper from Christian Jones helped the Bucs take a commanding 47-23 lead into halftime. 
  • The Bucs finished the half 8-13 from long-range. 
  • VSU was held to just 8-31 in the first half and made just two of its 10 three point attempts. 
  • After VSU cut the deficit to 56-37, with 15:24 left, CBU used a 16-6 spurt to take a 72-43 lead.
  • The Bucs continued their stingy defense, never allowing VSU to get to closer than 20 points for the remainder of the contest.
