Bucs Offense Explodes in Win Over Drury

MEMPHIS - The Christian Brothers University baseball team exploded for 20 runs and 21 hits in a 20-13 win over Drury, on Sunday afternoon, at Nadicksbernd Field. The win salvaged salvaged the series for the Bucs, who dropped a doubleheader to the Panthers the previous day. 

Clay Facteau drove in six runs, and Ben Brocato and Dalton Pyzer had four RBIs apiece.  

FINAL SCORE: CBU 20 (4-3) DU 13 (2-1)

GAME CHANGER:
After Drury plated five runs in the first and one in the second the Bucs stormed back, scoring 11 runs in the next two innings. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • The Bucs outhit Drury 21-15.
  • CBU finished with eight extra-base hits, including five doubles. 
  • Both teams committed four errors apiece. 
  • Facteau finished 4-5 with a double, a home run and six RBIs. 
  • Brocato and Pyzer drove in four runs apiece. Brocato finished with two doubles and a home run, while Pyzer had a double and a home run. 
  • Royal Hobson had four hits in five trips with four runs and a pair of RBIs. 
  • Seth Brown and Kelton Castillo added a pair of hits. 
  • Relief pitcher Joseph Gibson picked up the win while allowing two earned runs, on four hits, with four strikeouts in 3.1 innings. 
KEY PLAYS:
The Panthers capitalized on a pair of miscues to take a 5-0 lead in the top of the first. 
Trailing 6-0 in the second, the Bucs stormed back with six runs on six hits. The inning was highlighted by bases clearing double by Facteau. 
All six CBU runs came with two outs. 
CBU continued its hot hitting in the third when it added five runs on five hits. Facteau had a three-run round-tripper in the inning and Brocato launched a two-run shot. 
In the bottom of the sixth, leading 11-7, the Bucs strung together six hits to extend the lead to 17-7. Castillo drove in a pair, narrowly missed a grand slam, when he smacked a pitch off the left field wall. 
Drury answered, sending 11 batters to the plate, scoring six runs of its own in the seventh. 
With the Panthers back within striking range, Pyzer launched a three-run home run to give CBU a seven-run cushion to finish the game. 

NOTABLES:
  • The six RBIs for Facteau are tied for second-most in CBU recorded history, and are the most since Antonio Fernandez had the same amount last season against Shorter (4.9.22). 
  • The five doubles are the most in a game for CBU since 2021. 
  • The four hits for Facteau and Hobson are career-high's.
  • Brocato tied a career-high with four RBIs. 
  • Pyzer's home run was his first at CBU. 

UP NEXT:
The Bucs are scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 15, when they make the short trip to Rhodes. First pitch is scheduled for 1 PM.
