Bucs Fall in GSC Opener to Auburn Montgomery

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Christian Brothers University baseball team fell 13-6 to Auburn Montgomery, in its Gulf South Conference opener, on Friday afternoon at Q.V. Lowe Field. 

The Warhawks plated seven runs in the second inning and held on for the win. 

FINAL SCORE: AUM 13 (2-8, 1-0 GSC) CBU 6 (5-4, 0-1 GSC)

GAME CHANGER:
AUM took advantage of three straight walks and a CBU miscue to plate seven runs in the second. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • The Bucs finished the game with a 12-11 advantage in hits. 
  • CBU left 12 runners on base.
  • AUM took advantage of six walks. 
  • The Bucs had four batters hit by pitch, while also drawing three walks. 
  • Jarret Fowlkes led the Bucs with three hits in six trips. 
  • Reigning GSC Player of the Week Ben Brocato was 2-4 with a three-run home run. 
  • Clay Facteau and Royal Hobson also finished with two hits apiece. 
  • Relief pitcher Travis Cole allowed five runs on seven hits, with six strikeouts, in six innings. 
KEY PLAYS:
After CBU left a pair stranded in the first, the Warhawks opened the scoring with an RBI single. 
The Bucs took advantage of an AUM error to tie the game in the second. 
AUM drew three straight walks and took advantage of a CBU miscue to plate seven runs in the second. Six of the seven runs came with two outs. 
A Charlie Faoro sacrifice fly and a fielder's choice RBI by Matthew McDaniel got the Bucs to within 8-3 in the third. 
Trailing 9-3, in the eighth, an AUM error led to a three-run home run by Ben Brocato
AUM plated four runs, on four hits, in the bottom of the inning to help finish the game. 

NOTABLES:  
Through nine games, Brocato is just five RBIs away from matching his career high (22). 
Facteau and Hobson have three multi-hit games this season. 

UP NEXT:
The Bucs are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, Feb. 18, when they wrap up the series with Auburn Montgomery. Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1 PM.
