Valdosta State Edges Way Past Bucs


GAME ONE: VSU 8 (16-8, 8-5 GSC) | CBU 5 (11-15, 2-11) 

GAME CHANGER:
Trailing 5-4, in the ninth, the Blazers plated four runs to help win the contest. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • CBU lost, despite outhitting the visitors 10-8. 
  • Dalton Pyzer, Nick Stamper and Seth Brown all had two hits apiece. 
  • A double by Brown was the only extra base hit for the Bucs. 
  • CBU starting pitcher Jackson Sleeper allowed three runs, on five hits, with seven strikeouts in 5.1 innings. 
KEY PLAYS:
After CBU trailed 2-0 after one, the Bucs used a run in the second and one in the third to tie the game. 
Both teams scored in the seventh, giving VSU a 4-3 lead. 
CBU plated a pair to take a 5-4 lead into the ninth, but VSU hit a grand slam that proved to be the game-winner. 

GAME TWO: VSU 10 (17-8, 9-5 GSC) | CBU 5 (11-16, 2-12) 

GAME CHANGER:
VSU plated five runs in the first and held on for the win. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Both teams had nine hits apiece.
  • VSU had five errors in the contest. 
  • All nine CBU starters had one hit. 
  • Charlie Faoro had a double and three RBIs. 
KEY PLAYS:
VSU plated five runs on four hits in the first. 
Trailing 6-0, in the third, CBU plated five runs, on five hits, including a three-RBI double from Faoro. 
The Blazers answered back with two in the fifth and two insurance runs in the seventh.

UP NEXT:
The Bucs are scheduled to return to action on Sunday, March 19 when they finish the series with Valdosta State. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
