MEMPHIS - The Christian Brothers University baseball team held off a late rally to earn a 12-10 victory over Rhodes, on Tuesday afternoon, at Nadicksbernd Field.
The victory gave CBU the season sweep over the Lynx. The season sweep marked the first time since 2004 that the Bucs have swept the season series over Rhodes.
FINAL SCORE: CBU 12 (18-28) | RC 10 (25-12)
GAME CHANGER: The Bucs scored five in the fourth inning to take a 7-1 lead.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
CBU finished with a 13-10 edge in hits.
Dalton Pyzer led CBU, finishing 3-6 with a double and three RBIs.
Four different Bucs had multiple hits, including
Tate Gentleman,
Justin Donovan and
Will Gossett.
Clay Facteau finished with three RBIs.
Zach Sutton picked up the win in relief, as he worked 3.1 innings allowing three unearned runs, on two hits with four strikeouts.
KEY PLAYS:
After scoring a pair in the first, CBU plated five runs to take a 7-1 lead after four.
Pyzer and Facteau had back-to-back doubles in the big inning.
CBU took advantage of a pair of errors in the sixth to add two more runs.
Rhodes got back in the game with four runs, on four hits, to cut the deficit to 9-8 in the seventh.
CBU responded with two in the seventh and one in the eighth to increase the lead to 12-8.
Rhodes added a pair in the ninth and had the tying runs on base, with one out, but
Joseph Gibson forced Dante Messina to line into a double play to end the game.
NOTABLES:
The save for Gibson was his first of the season and the third of his career.
Gossett has now had two hits four different times this season.
Gentleman has hit safely in six straight games.
