Bucs Earn Senior Day Win Over Lee

MEMPHIS - The Christian Brothers University baseball team held off a late rally to earn a 10-9 win over Lee to help it split a doubleheader, on Saturday afternoon, at Nadicksbernd Field. Lee held on for a 9-6 win to salvage the split. Before the game, CBU honored its seven seniors. 
 
GAME ONE: CBU 10 (19-28, 7-21 GSC) | Lee 9 (23-20, 12-13 GSC) 

GAME CHANGER:
After Lee erased an early 6-2 deficit, the Bucs plated four runs in the bottom of the eighth to reclaim the lead.  
  
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: KEY PLAYS:
Trailing 2-1, in the third the Bucs scored five runs to take a 6-2 lead. The inning was highlighted by the three-run home run from Brocato. 
Lee used three home runs of its own to help take a 7-6 lead in the eighth. 
CBU answered when it took advantage of a pair of errors, scoring three runs, to take a 10-7 lead. 
Lee rallied with two runs in the ninth, but Sutton struck out three straight batters to end the game. 

NOTABLES:
The win was the first of the season for Cole. 

GAME TWO: Lee 9 (24-20, 13-13 GSC) | CBU 6 (19-29, 7-22 GSC)  

GAME CHANGER: The Flames scored five in the fifth to stretch their lead to 9-4. 

 INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Lee out hit CBU 8-6. 
  • CBU had three extra-base hits. 
  • Jarret Fowlkes led CBU with a pair of hits. 
  • Ben Brocato hit his second home run of the day. 
  • Jay White had a double. 
  • CBU starting pitcher Jacob Sitton allowed four runs, on four hits, with five strikeouts. 
KEY PLAYS:
Lee plated three in the second to take a 3-0 lead. 
Brocato opened the scoring for the Bucs with a solo home run in the second. 
Fowlkes had an RBI triple to tie the game at four in the fourth. 
The next inning, Lee plated five runs, on four hits, to take a 9-4 lead. 
In the bottom of the fifth, CBU took advantage of a pair of errors to cut the lead to 9-6. 
Hunter Lane retired the final six batters in order to seal the win for Lee.
