Defense Leads Bucs to Road Win at Lee

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Christian Brothers University men's basketball team earned an 81-71 win over Lee, on Thursday night, at Walker Arena. 

The Bucs held Lee to 11 points below its season averaged and to 40 percent from the floor. The Flames entered the contest shooting 47 percent. 

The setback was just the second at Walker Arena, for Lee, this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Bucs used a 12-2 run to take a 25-11 lead at the midway point of the first half. 
  • After CBU led by as many as 15 points, Beyuan Hendricks made a layup, as time expired, to cut the lead to 39-32 at the break. 
  • CBU made was 12-24 in the first half, including 6-13 from three-point range. 
  • The Bucs held Lee to just 10-26 shooting in the opening half. 
  • Lee used a 9-2 run to cut the defiict to 42-41, with 17:33 left. 
  • A three-pointer by Braxtyn McCuien gave CBU  a 61-52 lead, at the midway point of the second half. 
  • Tim Vaughn hit a three-point shot, with 3:18 left, to get the Flames to within 74-67. 
  • Over the next three minutes, CBU used a 7-2 run to close out the game. 
KEY STATS | NOTEABLES
  • This marked the first CBU win at Lee since Jan. 12, 2017. 
  • CBU held the hosts to 40 percent shooting (23-57), including just 8-24 from three-point range. 
  • CBU finished 26-54 (48 percent), while hitting 12 of its 24 three point attempts. 
  • After a 9-12 first half performance, from the free throw stripe, the Bucs finished 17-28. 
  • Lee used a 17-21 effort from the free throw line to stay in the contest. 
  • CBU dominated the boards, outrebounding Lee 40-28. 
  • Five Bucs scored in double-figures, led by Anias Futrell, who finished with a game-high 22 points. 
  • Braxtyn McCuien had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. 
  • Christian Jones added 15 points with seven assists. 
  • Jailen Anderson had 13 points, five rebounds and four helpers. 
  • Christian Thompson had 10 points, five rebounds, two assists and two blocked shots.

CBU is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, Jan. 13 when it travels to Shorter. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 PM CT.
