BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Gulf South Conference has announced its 2023 Fall All-Academic Teams and Honor Roll, and Christian Brothers University had three student-athletes named Academic All-Conference and 74 named to the Academic Honor Roll.
Student-athletes who competed in fall sports were eligible for awards. The 74 honor roll recipients are 14 more than last year.
Berket Mesele represented the CBU cross country teams, while
Marco Osti and
Max Klink were named to the Men's Soccer All-Academic Team. Six student-athletes were named to the GSC Cross Country All-Academic Teams, while 11 were named to the soccer teams.
Mesele earns his first career honor after a historic campaign that saw him finish second at the NCAA South Region Championships and third at the GSC Championships. For his efforts, Mesele became just the second CBU men's cross country runner to qualify for the NCAA Championships. The Nashville native has a 3.28 GPA in Chemical Engineering.
Osti was named to his first GSC All-Academic Team, after also being named Second Team Academic All-American by the United Soccer Coaches. On the field, the Trento, Italy native was named First Team All-GSC after leading the Bucs, and finishing tied for fifth in the league with five goals. Osti has a 4.0 GPA in the MBA program.
Klink also earned his first career GSC academic honor. On the pitch, the Amsterdam native earned Second Team All-GSC honors after a season that saw him rank second in the league with a .797 save percentage and fourth with a .854 goals against average. Klink also has a perfect 4.0 GPA in the MBA program.
GSC All-Academic honorees must have a 3.2 cumulative GPA and have made significant contributions to their respective teams during the 2023 campaign.
