Bucs Top Mississippi College to Earn Season Sweep

MEMPHIS – The Christian Brothers University men's basketball team earned a hard-fought 64-59 win over Mississippi College, on Monday night, at Canale Arena. 

With the win, the Bucs swept the season series from the Choctaws.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A basket by Andrew Eberhardt gave CBU a 16-13 lead, at the midway point of the opening half. 
  • Neither team led by more than four points the rest of the way, as the visitors took a 30-29 lead into halftime. 
  • CBU trailed by just one point despite only hitting two of its 13 three point attempts. 
  • A thunderous alley-oop dunk from Anias Futrell capped off a 19-4 run, giving the Bucs a 48-34 lead, with 13:48 left. 
  • The visitors scored 11 of the next 12 points to cut the deficit to 49-45. 
  • A pair of free throws from Rashad Bolden trimmed the CBU lead to 59-55, with 3:19 remaining. 
  • With 30 seconds left, Bolden got the Choctaws to within four points, but Christian Jones knocked down three of his four free throw attempts to seal the win. 
KEY STATS | NOTEABLES
  • Both teams finished 41 percent shooting. 
  • CBU was 20-36 from inside the three-point line. 
  • The Bucs dominated the paint, outscoring the visitors 34-22. 
  • Jailen Anderson led CBU with 16 points. 
  • Anias Futurell added 15 points and six rebounds, while Christian Jones stuffed the stat sheet with 11 points, six rebounds and eight assists. 
  • Christian Thompson led CBU with a game-high nine rebounds.
