Bucs Drop Hard Fought Contest to Alabama Huntsville

MEMPHIS – A late rally by the Christian Brothers University men's basketball team came up just short, as it dropped a hard-fought 61-60 decision to Alabama Huntsville, on Saturday afternoon, at Canale Arena. 

The Chargers entered the game in first place in the Gulf South Conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Chargers knocked down their first four shots and raced out to a 12-2 lead. 
  • A three-pointer by Andrew Eberhardt cut the deficit to 18-12, at the midway point of the first half. 
  • Back-to-back three-pointers by Eberhardt and Anias Futrell tied the game at 25, with 2:38 left until halftime. 
  • UAH used an 8-0 spurt to take a 33-25 lead at the break. 
  • The teams combined to go just 10-38 from three-point range in the first half. 
  • A three-pointer by Isaac Chatman gave UAH a 57-43 lead with 9:34 left. 
  • Christian Thompson scored seven straight points to cut the deficit to 57-50 with 7:10 remaining. 
  • Thompson converted a three-point play with 2:29 left that got CBU to within 59-57.
  • Futrell hit his second three-pointer of the game to cut the deficit to 61-60 with 1:19 left. 
  • A missed UAH free throw, with 10 seconds left, gave CBU an opportunity to win the game, but Jailen Anderson had his three-pointer rim out and Thompson had his falling tip in attempt come up short. 
KEY STATS | NOTEABLES
  • The Bucs held UAH to its lowest point total of the season. 
  • UAH finished 42 percent from the floor, while the Bucs shot 34 percent. 
  • The 42 percent from the floor is the second-lowest of the year for the Chargers. 
  • CBU was held to just 9-35 (26 percent) from three-point range, while UAH was 10-34 (29 percent).
  • The Bucs owned the rebounding battle 45-31. 
  • Christin Thompson led the Bucs with 19 points and 11 rebounds. The double-double is his third of the season. 
  • Braxtyn McCuien added a career-high 19 points with nine rebounds. 
  • Futrell rounded out the CBU double-figure scorers with 10 points. 
  • Christian Jones helped the Bucs on the boards, as he pulled down 10 rebounds.
