Bucs Smother West Alabama

MEMPHIS – The Christian Brothers University men's basketball team held visiting West Alabama to just 31 percent shooting in a 67-46 win, on Monday night, at Canale Arena. 

The 46 points for the Tigers matched their lowest total since it scored the same amount against Lee (Dec. 4, 2022 - 39 games).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Stifling defense by CBU helped it jump out to a 17-6 lead at the midway point of the opening half. 
  • The Bucs held the visitors to just 6-26 shooting (23 percent), including 0-13 from three-point range to take a 32-16 lead into halftime. 
  • CBU made 13 of its 20 shots, from inside the three point line, in the first half. 
  • Three minutes into the second half, the Tigers scored four straight points to cut the deficit to 34-22.
  • The Bucs responded, as Andrew Eberhardt knocked down a three-pointer to increase the lead to 43-24, with 14:13 left. 
  • Christian Jones hit a step-back three-pointer that gave the Bucs a 50-30 lead with 10 minutes remaining. 
  • The Tigers were unable trim the deficit to less than 15 points for the remainder of the contest. 
KEY STATS | NOTEABLES
  • The Bucs held UWA to its lowest point total of the season. 
  • UWA finished just 31 percent shooting (16-52) from the floor, and just 3-20 from three-point range. 
  • CBU shot 27-50 (54 percent), including 24-39 from inside the three-point line. 
  • Four Bucs combined for a season-high nine blocked shots. 
  • The Bucs dominated the rebounding battle 39-28. 
  • CBU also won the battle in the paint, outscoring UWA 34-20. 
  • Anias Futrell led CBU with a game-high 17 points with six rebounds and two blocks. 
  • Christian Jones added 15 points, seven rebounds, six assists and two blocks. 
  • Jailen Anderson rounded out the CBU double-figure scorers with 14 points.  
  • Christian Thompson recorded six points, nine rebounds and four blocks. 
  • Madison Monroe was a perfect 4-4 from the floor to finish with eight points.
