Men's Soccer wins convincingly at UAH

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Christian Brothers University men's soccer team (4-3-2, 1-1-2 GSC) traveled to Alabama-Huntsville (1-5-3, 0-4-1 GSC) on Friday night and came away with a 3-0 victory. The Bucs went up by a goal early in the contest before adding two more late in the second half for a convincing result.

KEY PLAYERS
  • Sophomore Russell Brown scored a goal and assisted on another. The goal was his third in two games and the assist was his second of the season.
  • Graduate goalkeeper Vicent Sanchis Olmedo earned his first shutout of the season after facing 13 shots and allowing none to slip past. He has only allowed one goal in his last three appearances.
  • Gio Bernardini and Robin Mollers scored their second and first goals of the season, respectively.
  • Harry Laing recorded his first assist of the 2024 campaign.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Mollers opened the scoring in the 13th minute with the first shot taken by either side. On the bounce, he struck the ball with the outside of his foot and twisted a shot into the top left corner of goal, 1-0. The go-ahead goal was scored from the top of the 18-yard box.
  • CBU added a brace in the 75th minute. Laing passed to Brown on a run. Brown then broke away from a UAH defender and dribbled around the keeper off his line for an easy finish, 2-0.
  • The final goal was scored by Bernardini off a well-placed cross from Brown, 3-0.
  • The Bucs defended well throughout the entire contest. Alabama-Huntsville was held to one shot on goal which Sanchis kept out.
