Bucs extend unbeaten streak with 3-0 win at UWA

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Christian Brothers men's soccer (4-3-2, 1-1-2 GSC) extended their unbeaten streak to four matches with a 3-0 win at West Alabama (4-4-3, 2-3-2 GSC) on Sunday afternoon. With two wins and a draw in their last three conference matches, the Bucs are now tied for sixth place with Lee and UWA in the league table.

COACH'S REMARKS

"Massive credit to this group for going on the road and getting two wins," said Head Coach Enda Crehan. "Back to work this week but we'll enjoy this weekend forsure."

KEY PLAYERS
  • Sophomore Russell Brown continued his run of good form with a hat trick. He now has six goals on the season which places him third on the GSC leaderboard. His 14 points this season is also currently the third-best tally in the conference.
  • Graduate student Vicent Sanchis Olmedo made four saves to keep a clean sheet for the second match in a row. He did not allow a goal while he was between the sticks against Central Baptist either.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • CBU totaled 25 shots in the match, with six on target, while limiting West Alabama to 12 shots with five on goal.
  • Sanchis Olmedo made two saves in each half to deny the Tigers from scoring. Jakob Morales came in late in the second half and made a final save to preserve the shutout. Bucs defenders blocked four shots to play their part in the defending masterclass.
  • Brown put CBU on top in the 31st minute with his first goal of the match. He collected the rebound of a deflected shot and finished on the run into a wide open net.
  • Brown intercepted a pass, dribbled around a wary UWA defender, and slotted a shot into the left side of the netting from out wide for his second goal in the 51st minute.
  • Brown completed his hat trick in the 66th minute with arguably his most spectacular goal of the day. He dribbled through a trio of defenders for a one-on-one with the keeper and beat him on his near post with a slightly-elevated shot.
